How to enjoy sun the healthy-style? Every girl’s summer guide

Body-warming sun, golden sand, azure water and vacation. Which one of us wouldn’t like to spend most of their time this way? But is long sun exposure good for our skin? If you have doubts concerning sunbathing, find out what you can gain due to getting tanned, how much time you can spend sunbathing safely, what the best period of a day is to expose body to the sun and… is sunbathing even worth doing?

Before sunbathing…

… it’s wise to make some preparations first. And it isn’t about buying new bikini, packing all essential gadgets you might need at the beach or choosing the best location at the seaside. There are other more important issues connected with sunbathing.

One of them is peeling, among others. Mind you, due to exfoliating dead epidermis cells you will get prettier and more durable tan. Also, your skin will be more supple and blood circulation will be boosted. Keep applying body peeling in two weeks before the scheduled summer rest. The last peeling application should be done in 3 days before planned sunbathing. Thanks to this, you will give your skin time to regenerate fully.

The second important task that has to be done before your summer vacation is intensive body moisturisation. As you already know this well, both the sun and sea water dehydrate skin, encourage faster flaking and irritation. Having this in mind, before starting the sunbathing season, treat your body with a balm, milk or body butter every day. Basically, products containing cucumber extract, aloe extract, green tea, hyaluronic acid or urea are good for this task. Of course, post-tanning care is also important so don’t forget to replenish your skin with water after leaving the sun. By letting your skin drink, you help it regenerate faster and soothe possible irritations.

The crucial thing that you should do before the vacation is protecting skin against harmful solar radiation. Sadly, even the sun, which so pleasantly warms our bodies up, can cause severe and serious epidermis and dermis damages. Therefore, if you want to stay away from this aftermath, don’t forget to coat your skin with sunscreens before every single sun exposure. In fact, SPF 20 will do, yet remember to reapply the product every two hours.

Rules of safe sunbathing

1. Use only alcohol-free cosmetics

In the summer, it’s advised against applying fragrances, face tonics containing alcohol and antibacterial products featuring alcohol as their base ingredient. Why is that? This substance makes skin more susceptible to the action delivered by sun rays, it irritates and dehydrates. Mind you, alcohol exposed to the sun can cause hard to remove skin discolorations. What can you do about this? Instead of fragrances, try to use fragrance mists and replace your regular face tonic with micellar lotion.

2. Hide in shadows

If the high temperature is unbearable, hide yourself in a shadow. Wait heatwave out, which usually appears between 11.00 AM and 4:00 PM. Take a stroll walking along the shaded part of a pavement, visit a forest or go at a lake. Also, remember to wear some head protection which provides you with a bit of a shadow.

3. Protect sensitive body areas

Do your best to protect the most sensitive body parts that are exceptionally sun-defenceless. They are head, neck, lips, eyes and the upper part of your feet. If you are going for a walk or planning to spend the entire day at the beach, remember to: wear a broadbrim, apply sunscreen to every part of your face, use lip protecting balms and sunglasses.

How to choose the best sunscreen?

If you want to choose the right cosmetics to shield you from the sun, you need to take into consideration a few things first: your skin prototype, type of factor and its intensity. How many skin phototypes do we have? There are six of them where the first one indicates a very pale skin, whereas the sixth – dark brown skin. The creator of this scale is Thomas B. Fitzpatrick, a dermatologist. And it’s the prototype in particular that SPF has to match. There are the following SPF types: 6 (best for dark-skinned people), 10 (perfect for those whose prototype is 5), 15-20 (ideal for people having light brown skin which rarely gets irritated by the sun), 20-25 (cosmetics designed for people having 3 prototype), 30-50 (products suitable for people having pale, irritation-prone skin), 50+ (dedicated for people having 1 prototype).
