What is the Thread Lift?

The thread lift, also called the stitch lift, is a non-surgical treatment that is said to lift the face and neck skin. In the procedure, special threads are implanted under the skin, hooked to the skin, pulled a bit and then anchored into strong tissue in the upper part of the face e.g. forehead or behind ears.

Theoretically it all sound great, however the longevity is quite very poor and the procedure is proving to be much less effective that it was first expected. When something is less expensive and less invasive it is very attractive to people. The media were raving about it trying to persuade potential clients to try this new method. The threads reposition the skin at a higher level and over time, the skin sits in this position even though the stitches are being absorbed. The effect lasts for another 6-9 months after the thread are dissolved.

What are the side effects of the Thread Lift?

The most common side effects are bruising and swelling. The bruising may be quite severe and it may take up to 7 days to go away completely. The cheek area may feel tight and the pain being ears may persist for 2-3 post treatment. The total cost for the treatment starts from £3,000 and it may vary depending on the number of stitches that need to be anchored in the skin. The treatment requires partial anaesthetic and the patient is discharged from the clinic the same day.
